Microbiology (8-12)
There is a whole world of activity within and around us that most people never see. Without the complex structures and processes happening at the microscopic level, life could not exist. This course is a study of living things at their most basic level; from enzymes, amino acids, and DNA to cells, organelles, and plastids that serve as the building blocks of all creatures. Microbiology is relevant to understanding not only single-celled organisms like bacteria, fungi, algae, and protists, which we explore, but every living thing, even as large as blue whales or great sequoias. We learn about cellular reproduction and the history and theory of heredity and mutations, discussing the validity of creation and evolution in light of discoveries made in these fields over the last few decades.
